touching moment

Miss B
Its been a while.? I'm the guy that sent you the fans.? My deepest sympathies on Delaney's passing to you and your family.? When I heard the news.....oddly enough....the first thing that came to mind was a brief but extremely telling moment the night you played at BB Kings Blues club in NY.? Some guy yelled out after your first song "Hey Bonnie, where's Delaney???".? You were composed, ?but what you said now says so much more.? You looked out in the audience and said "Delaney's at home.....I don't know why I know that....but he is".? Obviously it left an impression on me because it was a perfect example of how imperfect relationships can be.? People you love are always in your heart and somehow you always know where to find them.? Let your music soothe you as it its soothes all of us who hear you sing.
Blessings and love
Pete from NJ

Never Ending Song Of Love

Bonnie . . .
as a kid, like many kids, i took accordion lessons (yeah, that "Lady Of Spain" bellows shake kind. ha!) . . . but i always wanted to play guitar . . . and aunt & uncle gave me a "Stella" guitar and armed with a home-made chord booklet, i attempted to play that guitar . . . and actually did . .? .a little . . . and not all that well . . . but with travelling to prep schools and colleges and grad-school and other life-moves, that "Stella" guitar took one too many bumps and plain old "busted" . . .? i always thought i'd buy another one . . . but somehow just never did . . .
this past July my mom passed away . . . a few weeks before she was rushed into the hospital "ER" and then to "ICU-Critical Care" where she eventually died, mom called me into her room and handed me a small envelope "gift" and said, "go buy that guitar you always wanted" . . .? but as the wekks progressed, her health grew worse and then 18 days in "critical care" and then losing mom, i just wasn't feeling much into "music as fun" anymore . . .
but, mom always sang songs around the house ever since i could remember, right up to the end in fact . . . so i thought, i might get that guitar and try to learn enough to "plunk out" the songs i remember mom?singing since i was a kid! (my sixty year old fingers are not anywhere as agile as they were back when i had that old "Stella" but, since i wasn't playing for an audience, just for "me and mom", i guess it doesn't really matter if i miss a few notes here and there. ha!) . . .
so i bought an acoustic folk guitar: Oscar Schmidt by Washburn (trans blue in color for personal reasons) . . .
i bought a "home study book with a dvd" and it seemed like "the impossible dream" . . .but after a few weeks of sore hurting finger tips, i did learn some chords and i learned to pick and play quite a few of the songs mom sang: "The Tenessee Waltz" . . . "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You?" . . ."Red River Valley". . ."Whispering Hope" . . ."Rye Whiskey Rye Whiskey" . . . "Mockingbird Hill" . . . "Nobody's Sweetheart But Mine" . . "All The World Is Lonely Now" . . . "Oh Dear What Can The Matter be" . . and mom's favorite: "Till We Meet Again" (wedding bells will ring so merrily . . . every tear will be a memory . . so wait for me and don't you cry, cause i'll be coming back . . "
but a few yars ago i played some "Delaney & Bonnie" songs, and mom "knew" the "Never Ending Song Of Love"! . . . i'm not sure she knew who wrote and sang it, but she knew that song . . . so i went on a "web-search' for some guitar tabs . . and did find some . . . but they seemed like chords i would't be able to play (at least not just yet , i AM a guitar "neophyte" afterall) . . but after just sitting around picking out the melody note by note, i found i can play "Never Ending Song Of love" using a basic C chord . . a G7 chord . . a simple "F" chord . . and pick out the melody with? ' me other fingers what wasn't doin' nuthin' else ha! . . . and so, now i can play a Delaney & Bonnie song!? (Eric Clapton need have no fears though . . . ha!) . . .
i just wanted to pass that little account along . . . (by the way, i love the Delaney & Bonnie recording of "Never Endling Song Of Love" . . . the liner notes on the CD say that you wrote it for your kids . . . i'm sure that makes it a special song to you too!)? :)
You Delaney and the kids
